NIN STATUS - Check Numbers Linked To Your NIN


As a Nigerian, to check the numbers linked to your National Identification Number, NIN take the following steps.

Dial *996# 

You should get the menu below if you use MTN.

1. Submit NIN/Virtual NIN

2. Get Enterprise ID

3. Generate V/NIN

4. View NIN status

5. Update SIM Info

6. Link corporate line

7. Link device line


Select 4.

The following options would be displayed.

1. Check your NIN status

2. View numbers linked to NIN

0. Back


Select 2.


You will get an SMS reading ‘Your NIN details have been sent, please check your SMS.


Open your SMS and you should have something similar to what I got when I checked mine - 


Yello! Thanks for choosing MTN, find below all number(s) linked: 7043_ _ _ _; 803841_ _ _ _. Pls call 300 or visit any MTN shop within 7days to report if any number is not yours.


Those are my two MTN numbers listed in the SMS I got from MTN.

You may also see a list of numbers like this. If there is any one that's not yours, quickly take action by visiting your network provider to remove it. 

What is the implication of not taken action?

Your number could be used for criminal operations and you will be traced and tried.


The steps above are for MTN line. There is a little difference in the list of menus displayed depending on your network. However, the same code, *996# is used to initiate the action.

Restore Nokia C5 to factory state
